With her graceful sculptures, Giulia Binnici (°1970, lives and works in Liège) draws our attention to the mysterious, almost divine aura of female figures. Inspired by African and Asian masks, but also by painter Amedeo Modigliani, she sculpts unique, particularly refined characters each time. Based on their characteristics, she gives them each a feminine first name from times long gone. The sculptures owe their stone-like appearance to their meticulous, layered construction. With her self-developed material - which includes marble powder - she avoids using the kiln, so she is not bound to certain dimensions. Although the sculptures are robust, they retain a certain suppleness, and stand the test of time just fine.
