Ling Madelein
Belgium (2002)Ling Madelein (b. 2002, Snaaskerke, Belgium) is an emerging visual artist with a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from KASK Ghent. Raised in the quiet village of Snaaskerke and shaped by years of internal exploration, her artistic practice blossomed when she discovered painting during her studies—a medium that became both a refuge and a revelation.
She works with acrylic paint and Indian ink, never sketching beforehand. Her paintings are intuitive constructions, layered with emotion, instinct, and introspection. Through a process of adding and covering, the original layer often disappears, giving way to something more complex and sincere. Ling describes her creative flow as a rhythm of sitting, staring, stepping back—and suddenly diving in with new clarity.
Color plays a crucial role in her work. Her palette doesn’t simply seek attention; it demands it. Bold, unapologetic, and immersive, her use of color becomes a voice of its own. Her practice often draws on personal experiences and bodily discomforts, such as in her project “Growing New Skin”, which investigates the body as a site of unease and alienation. Born from emotional and physical tension, this series portrays healing as an ongoing wound—raw yet regenerative.
For Ling, painting is a form of self-investigation. Her canvas becomes a visual diary—a place to explore inner truths that words can’t capture. Her work is her, and she becomes her work.
