Traces - Matthew Van Liessum

With 'TRACES', Private Walls Gallery presents a new body of work by Dutch artist Matthew van Liessum. Working directly on raw linen laid across the studio floor, Van Liessum paints instinctively, using his hands, brushes and unconventional tools. Each gesture leaves a trace — spontaneous yet deliberate, energetic yet balanced. Music, rooted in his background as a recording artist, plays an essential role in his process. Rhythm, movement and repetition find their way onto the canvas, allowing each composition to evolve freely without a predetermined outcome. By leaving his works *Untitled*, van Liessum avoids imposing a narrative, inviting the viewer to experience each painting on a personal level. TRACES captures what remains: marks of movement, moments of intuition and layers of energy preserved on linen.
